Privacy Policy
This policy explains what Merit collects, why it collects it, and how you can delete it.
Summary
Merit is built to be private by default. You can read lessons, complete courses, and write reflections on your device without creating an account. Optional sign-in exists to prepare for private sync and account-based features.
- No advertising or third-party ad tracking.
- No sale of personal data.
- No precise location, contacts, photos, microphone, camera, or health data collection.
- Private reflections are stored locally on your device in the current iOS release.
Information we collect
If you use Merit without signing in, lesson progress and reflections are stored on your device using iOS local storage. Merit may fetch public course content and audio from the Merit server, Supabase Storage, and Vercel-hosted endpoints.
If you choose Sign in with Apple, Merit receives the Apple account identifier, the email address Apple provides, and your name only if you choose to share it. Merit may store your account profile and lesson completion progress in Supabase so the app can support sync.
If you contact support, we collect the email address and information you choose to include in the support request.
How we use information
- To operate the app and website.
- To show your course progress and keep account-based progress in sync when you sign in.
- To respond to support requests.
- To protect the service from abuse and diagnose reliability problems.
We do not use your Merit activity to build advertising profiles.
Service providers
Merit uses service providers to run the app and website. These providers process data only as needed to provide infrastructure, authentication, hosting, storage, and support.
- Apple: Sign in with Apple and App Store distribution.
- Supabase: authentication, user profiles, synced progress, database, and storage.
- Vercel: website and API hosting.
- ElevenLabs: generated lesson narration. User reflections are not sent to ElevenLabs in the current release.
Retention and deletion
Local progress and reflections remain on your device until you delete them, remove the app, or clear app data through iOS. Account profile and synced progress are retained while your account exists.
You can request account deletion from inside the app or by visiting the account deletion page. When an account is deleted, Merit deletes the account record and associated account data that we are not legally required to keep.
Children
Merit is a general-audience learning app and is not directed to children under 13. Do not create an account for Merit if you are under 13.
