Terms of Use

These terms describe the basic rules for using Merit.

Using Merit

Merit is an educational Buddhist learning app and website. You may use it for personal learning, reflection, and practice.

You agree not to misuse the service, interfere with its operation, attempt unauthorized access, or use Merit in a way that violates applicable law.

Educational content

Merit teaches Buddhism plainly and respectfully, with a Thai Forest-led Theravada home ground and source-aware context. The app is not a substitute for a qualified teacher, monastic community, therapist, physician, lawyer, or other professional advisor.

Meditation and reflection can bring up difficult feelings. If practice feels destabilizing, pause and seek appropriate human support.

Accounts

You can use the core iOS app without creating an account. If you choose Sign in with Apple, you are responsible for keeping your Apple account secure.

You may delete your Merit account from inside the app or by contacting support. Deleting the app from your device does not automatically delete a synced account.

Content rights

Merit includes original writing, app artwork, interface design, generated narration, and source citations. You may not copy or redistribute Merit content as a competing product without permission.

Canonical and teacher source material belongs to its respective translators, publishers, monasteries, or public-domain/Creative Commons sources. Merit aims to cite source material clearly and respect license terms.

No warranties

Merit is provided as is and as available. We work to keep it accurate, calm, and useful, but we do not promise that every feature will always be available or error-free.

Changes

We may update these terms as Merit develops. Continued use of Merit after updates means you accept the updated terms.
